The circular gate valve is a commonly used shut-off valve in industrial piping systems. Its core feature is a circular-shaped gate (disc) that moves vertically up and down to achieve on/off control of pipeline media. It offers low flow resistance coefficient, reliable sealing performance, and high flow capacity. Suitable for medium-to-low pressure to high pressure, and ambient to high-temperature conditions, it is widely used in pipelines conveying water, steam, gases, oils, slurries, and various other media. It is a critical fluid control device in industries such as chemical processing, power generation, and water supply & drainage.
Core Structural Components
1. Valve Body: The main connection component to the pipeline. Material selection depends on media characteristics. Available in flange-type, wafer-type, and welded-type configurations to ensure secure pipeline connection.
2. Circular Gate: The core opening/closing component, shaped as a circular flat plate or a circular plate with flow guide holes. Material matches the valve body, and the sealing surface is precision-machined for enhanced wear resistance.
3. Valve Stem: Connects the gate to the drive device, transmitting opening/closing force. Typically made of stainless steel or alloy structural steel. For high-pressure applications, quenching and tempering treatment is applied to ensure strength and corrosion resistance.
4. Sealing Device: Consists of seat seal and stem packing seal. Seat seals include soft seals and hard seals. Stem packing seals seal the gap between the stem and valve body to prevent media leakage.
5. Drive Device: Provides opening/closing power, including manual, electric, pneumatic, and hydraulic types to suit different operating scenarios.
6. Other Components: Includes bonnet, yoke/bracket, guide mechanism, and limit stops.
Operating Principle
1. The drive device moves the valve stem vertically up and down, and the stem synchronously drives the circular gate to move along the valve body's guide mechanism.
2. When the gate is fully raised, the valve body bore is unobstructed, allowing media to pass through smoothly with minimal flow resistance.
3. When the gate is fully lowered, the gate sealing surface tightly contacts the valve seat, blocking media flow and achieving a sealed shut-off.
4. Some modulating-type circular gate valves can achieve coarse flow control by adjusting the gate lift height to regulate the flow passage area.
